Action Area 3: Promote knowledge and literacy on soils

In 2022/2023 several stakeholder events, international conferences and research projects took place to promotes knowledge and literacy on soils. In 2022/2023 there was quite a number of calls for proposals and priority programmes.

Under the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” several research projects are running: (selection)

  • EU research programmes: Co-creating solutions for soil health in Living Labs.
  • SOILL Startup: Foster a network of healthy Living Labs and Lighthouses across Europe, facilitate collaborations and support knowledge exchange. The Startup follows the NATII00Ns program, ended 2024 and aimed at empowering stakeholders to participate in regional soil health Living Labs.
  • SOLO (Soils4Europe): Thinktanks for soil research and innovation in several fields: Land degradation, SOC, Soil sealing, Pesticides, Erosion, Soil structure, EU global footprint, Soil literacy, Soil biodiversity.
  • SpongeWorks: Implementation of nature-based solutions for water retention and climate resilience in Euorpe through ad acning scientific knowledge and implementing nature-based solutions and management instruments.
