Training Course on Soil Sampling

The Thuenen-Institute offered a training course on soil sampling for a harmonized European forest soil monitoring. 

The course took place near Eberswalde (60 km from Berlin), Germany from 25.-27. September 2024.

Content of the course:

This workshop teached the practical application of a soil sampling design and soil classification with a focus on carbon stock calculation for greenhouse gas reporting.
The content was disturbed and undisturbed soil sampling, humus type classification, sampling of the litter layer and soil classification following the WRB classification. Further, it created an opportunity to exchange and network on European forest soil sampling and monitoring of forest soils.

The workshop was hosted by Thuenen and ISRIC as part of the EU H2020 HoliSoils project.
